EMERGENCY - TRAUMA
Our trauma specialists utilise both operative and non-operative management to treat traumatic injuries. The trauma surgeon is responsible for initially resuscitating and stabilising and later evaluating and managing the patient.
X-RAY-IMAGING CENTRE
Clinique du L’Occident has an X-ray machine, ultrasound unit and is supported by its sister clinic with a large, modern imaging centre equipped with CT scan, an MRI and a mammography scanning device. You cannot only benefit from quick procedures, but also from comprehensive explanations of your results all under one roof. Your tests are carried out by experts who directly submit the results to your responsible physician.
AMBULANCE SERVICE
Our 24x7 department receives many calls concerning road accidents, injuries at work and home for which we dispatch our rescue teams; they are well stabilised with inflatable immobilizers, injections for pain or oxygen etc.. in our fully equipped ambulances.
Our service is also provided whether it is a doctor’s appointment, or transfer between medical facilities.
MEDICAL ASSIST
Our year of experience providing medical assistance to travellers and expats make our service the perfect solution for your loved ones, who need medical transportation back home after an emergency or for various health appointments and activities.
ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON
Our Orthopaedic Surgeon specialises in the diagnosis as well as the pre-operative, operative and post-operative treatment of disease and injury of the muscles and the skeletal system. He closely collaborates with our other health care providers and might serve as a consultant to our other doctors.
Clinic’s Medical Services
The structure of the clinics is to provide emergency and general medical and health services supported by sister Clinique du Nord with a multidisciplinary structure covering all medical disciplines. Clinique de L’Occident have specialised doctors on call that can be on location between 15 to 30 minutes.
The clinic has an ambulance service that forms part of our emergency, medical assistance and medical transfer service under Mauritius Clinics network.
Additionally;
Depending on medical needs, we can provide prescription medicines from inhouse pharmacies or refer you to pharmacies that we can recommend.

How do you remove sea urchin spines from my foot?
Removing sea urchin spines with tweezers can cause them to break and splinter at the skin's surface. The spines might appear to be gone but can remain in the deeper layers of skin. So it is advisable for a person to soak the affected area in vinegar. Vinegar can help dissolve the spines, however; spines may sit deeper in which case you should seek medical assistance.
How do I treat a burn?
For First-Degree Burns, cool the burn by holding the burned skin under cool (not cold) running water or immerse in cool water until the pain subsides. Use compresses if running water is not available. Cover with sterile, non-adhesive bandage or clean cloth. For second and third burns start the cooling process and contact our clinic for medical or emergency assistance.
